The following learning objects were developed with the UTSC Liaison Librarians, as well as participants in our Emerging Professionals Program. 

Digital Storytelling with StoryMapJS

This module explores the creation of storymaps through textual narratives. Using StoryMapJS, learn how to isolate, organize, and format information textual information to feed into a geographic narrative using a guided example built around narratives from Aesop's Fables.

Fundamentals of Data Visualization

This module examines the process of creating temporal, geospatial and network data visualizations. Topics covered include categories of visualizations, pre-attentive properties, and organizing and manipulating tabular data for visualizations. Includes examples in Google Data Studio, Palladio, and Voyant.

Image Annotation

This learning module introduces textual and digital annotation processes. Topics covered include image file formats and interoperability frameworks, best practices, and popular projects and tools, including a demonstration of the Szoter annotation tool.

Introduction to APIs

This module introduces application programming interfaces (APIs). Topics covered include identifying and locating APIs through library resources, evaluating APIs for scholarly use, and reading documentation. Module also incorporates hands-on exercises using CORE API documentation.

Introduction to Bash, Imagemagick & Mogrify

This module introduces the command line through installation and use of Imagemagick, Bash and Mogrify. Module includes command line terminology, installing and using Imagemagick editing and converting bitmap images via the command line.

Introduction to Encoding (TEI)

This module introduces the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) consortium and standards for marking electronic texts in the humanities. This module provides an overview of the characteristics of TEI and XML, and introduces a number of resources and independent activities.

This module provides an overview of the digital asset manamgement system Islandora, including architecture, common uses, and a tutorial of the Islandora Sandbox environment. Note that this module covers the Islandora 7 iteration of the software.
